Corporate Health and Safety (CHS) has created a mandatory course on the Health and Safety Management System for the Yukon Government (YG). The course will define the components of the CHSMS and what your responsibilities are and what YG is doing to keep you safe.

Course Title - Corporate Health and Safety Management System Training
This training is essential for all YG employees, and will aid in the orientation of young and new workers to the Yukon Government.
We are so glad you asked what we mean by new and young worker. Well this is it:
- "young worker" means any worker who is under 19 years of age.
- "new worker" means any worker who is:
- new to the workplace;
- returning to the workplace where the hazards in that workplace have changed during the worker's absence; or
- relocated to a new workplace where the hazards in that workplace are different from the hazards in the worker's previous workplace.
So it means everyone.
Young and new workers require orientation training from their immediate supervisors. Safety orientation provides workers with both general safety information and work specific safety information. The CHSMS was developed to provide all workers with general information specific to the elements of the Corporate Health and Safety Management System.
This course should take approximately 2-3 hours and does not have to be completed in one session. When you are finished you will receive a certificate of completion. Provide a copy of this to your supervisor to satisfy the records and statistics element.
The next part in orientation is the supervisor talking about and showing the worker the emergency evacuation process, emergency equipment, job specific hazards and introducing them to the first aid attendants and joint health and safety committee members/representatives.
CHSMS is a prerequisite for future safety training that will be coming your way from Corporate Health and Safety in 17/18. [Training for safety committees, hazard identification, internal responsibility system, accident investigation and inspections]
Take this opportunity to refresh your knowledge on health and safety and make our workplaces safe today and every day.
