Electrical Appliances

Purpose:

This Safe Work Practice (SWP) will provide YG employees with a set of guidelines or “Do’s and Don’ts” that have been developed to mitigate hazards associated with this work task, as identified through your workplace hazard identification process. All YG employees performing this work task are required to be trained, knowledgeable and competent.


Guidelines:

a)           Be familiar with the safe operation of any and all electrical appliances within your

              workplace (i.e., ask for instruction, read owner’s manual).

b)           Turn off or unplug equipment from outlet when not in use.

c)           Do not use electrical tools in damp or wet locations.

d)           Allow equipment to cool before putting on or taking off parts.

e)           Disconnect power supply or lock off electricity before moving, cleaning, trouble-

              shooting or conducting any maintenance on electrical appliance.

f)            Do not disable any safety features and use approved power supplies.

g)           Do not use the appliance for anything other than its intended use.

h)           Do not use outdoors, if the appliance is not intended for outdoor use.

i)             Use only appropriate cleaners and methods approved for the appliance.

j)             Do not use any accessory not intended for use with the appliance.

k)            Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been  

               damaged in any manner.
     

 

General:

This SWP is in reference to general office appliances such as photocopiers, printers, kettles, etc.
