This Safe Work Practice (SWP) will provide YG employees with a set of guidelines or “Do’s and Don’ts” that have been developed to mitigate hazards associated with this work task, as identified through your workplace hazard identification process. All YG employees performing this work task are required to be trained, knowledgeable and competent.
Before leaving your headquarters on trips which may involve a safety risk, it is your responsibility to log a trip plan. This trip plan may be logged with your supervisor or the person designated as responsible for the trip plan.
Trip plans, and each change to a registered trip plan should describe:
a) the area of travel (supply map, if possible)
b) schedule and timeframe in sufficient detail to allow a determination of your whereabouts
c) the gear and equipment you have with you (survival gear, specialized safety equipment, Spot Device etc.)
d) your expected time of arrival at headquarters area or aircraft/ vehicle pick up point.
e) your means of travel.
Each branch/department is responsible for establishing a method of registering trip plans which may include:
a) in writing
b) by telephone or radio, in which case they must be recorded as per established branch procedure
c) leaving notice at a base camp as per established branch procedure
d) communicating by telephone to the department after hours phone number
e) notice relayed to the branch during normal working hours
f) notice relayed to the Department Phone After Hours
On arriving at your destination, you are required to contact your branch or the department contact after hours to confirm your arrival if you are able to do so. Before leaving your destination, you are required to contact your branch or the contact after hours. On arriving back at your headquarters area, you are required to confirm your arrival with your branch or the after-hours contact.
